Mâveraünnehir kelamı deyince akla gelen tek isim İmam Mâturidi ve onun tesis ettiği Mâturidilik ekolü olmaktadır. Fakat Mu'tezile fırkası az sayıdaki temsilcisi ve bilimsel eserlerinin de etkisiyle Mâveraünnehir itikadında önemli rol oynamış, Mâturidiliğin gelişmesine direk ve dolaylı etkisini göstermiştir. Mâturidi’nin pek çok konuda, Mu'tezile’nin fikirlerini eserlerinde tartışmasına ve hakarete varan eleştirilerde bulunmasına bakılırsa Mu'tezile'nin bölgede etkili olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Bu durumdan hareketle o dönemde bölgede bilimsel tartışmayla birlikte ideolojik mücadele de söz konusu olduğunu söyleyebiliriz. Mâturidiler, birçok konuda Mu'tezile'den farklı düşüncede olmasına rağmen, dini yorumlarken akla öncelik verilmesi konusunda onlarla aynı çizgiyi takip etmekte, adeta Mu'tezile'nin akılcılık yöntemini bizzat kullanmaktadır.

When we talk about kalam in the Transoxiana (Mawarannahr), Maturidi and the school which was founded by him (Maturidism) primarily come to our minds. However, the school of Mu’tazili also played a significant role in the Transoxiana with only a few representatives and scholarly works.  And they also had direct and indirect influences on the development of Maturdism. From Maturidi’s discussions and offensive criticisms of the Mu’tazilis’ views on many issues, it can be understood that Mu’tazilis were also quite influential in the region. This also verifies that along with scholarly discussions, there were also ideological struggles in the region. Even though the Maturidis did not agree with Mu’tazilis on many issues, (like Mu’tazilis) they gave priority to the reason when they comment on the religion, and they actively used the Mu’tazilis’ rationalism. In this regard, they followed the same path as the Mu’tazilis.
