Öz

Mantık sanatının ilk defa Organon isimli kitaplarında Aristoteles tarafından ortaya konulduğu bilinmektedir. Klasik mantık, tarihi boyunca Yunanca, Süryanice, Arapça, İbranice ve Latince gibi klasik dillerde elkitabı, özet ya da şerh gibi çalışmalar kaleme almış olan mantıkçı filozoflar tarafından yeniden inşa edilmiştir. Ortaçağ Latin Batı mantığının tarihte klasik mantık geleneği içerisinde kendine özgü bir yer kazanmış olduğu açıktır. Ortaçağ boyunca Latin dilinde ortaya konulmuş zengin bir mantık literatürü olduğunu hepimiz biliyoruz. Türkçede biz klasik diller arasında en fazla Arapça yazılan mantık eserleri üzerine yapılmış çeviri ve akademik çalışmaya sahibiz. Türkçede Latin mantık geleneği üzerine yapılmış yeterli çalışma olduğunu söylemek zordur.  Türkçeye çevirdiğimiz bu çalışmada Ian Wilks sekizinci yüzyıldan on ikinci yüzyıla kadar Latin Ortaçağı mantığını ele almakta ve bizlere tarihsel bir perspektif sunmaktadır. Burada sekizinci ve dokuzuncu yüzyıllarda Latin Batı’da mantığa yaklaşımın Platoncu ve metafiziksel olduğu, onuncu yüzyılda mantıkçıların çıkarım teorisine yoğunlaştığı, on birinci yüzyılda semantik ve lingustik spekülasyonların öne çıktığı ve son olarak on ikinci yüzyılda ise mantık çalışmalarının mantıkçı teoloji okullarınca ortaya konulan entelektüel ürünlerce şekillendirildiği ifade edilmektedir.

The art of logic seems to have been undertaken first by Aristotle in his books called Organon. Classical logic has been reconstructed throughout its history by the logician philosophers who wrote works like handbooks, summaries, or commentaries in classical languages such as Greek, Syriac, Arabic, Hebrew and Latin. It is clear that the Medieval logic in the Latin West has gained a unique place within the classical logic tradition in history. We all know there is a rich logic literature produced in Latin during the Middle Ages. In Turkish, we have translations and academic studies on logical works mostly in Arabic among these classical languages. It is difficult to say that there is enough work done on the Latin logic tradition in Turkish. In this study, which we translated into Turkish, Ian Wilks deals with the Latin medieval logic from the eighth to the twelfth centuries and offers us a historical perspective. Here, it is stated that the approach to logic in the Latin West in the eighth and ninth centuries was Platonic and metaphysical, in the tenth century the logicians focused on inference theory, in the eleventh century semantic and linguistic speculations came forward and finally in the twelfth century studies of logic were shaped by the intellectual products by the logical-theology schools.
