Hikmet anlayışı terimiyle bir kimse, din, felsefe, bilim ve günlük insan deneyimi gibi yaşamın tüm yönlerini bileştirebilir ve uyarlayabilir. Bunlar, teorik ve pratik bilginin birleşimi olarak hikmetin kaynakları ve konularıdır. Muhammed İkbal’in hikmet anlayışını ortaya koymak için öncelikle onun hayatı ayrıntılı olarak incelenecektir. Çünkü felsefenin aksine hikmet bilgisi hem dini kaynaklardan hem de insan tecrübelerinden gelmektedir. Bu yüzden Sokrates gibi bilge bir adam olan İkbal’in ana fikirleri, sadece eserlerinden değil, yaşam öyküsünden ve sosyal faaliyetlerinden öğrenilmelidir. Bu yaklaşım olmaksızın İkbal, çağdaş Müslüman eğitimcilere bir model olarak hizmet sunamaz.

By the term wisdom understanding, one can combine and adapt all the aspects of life such as religion, philosophy, science and daily human experiences. They are the sources and subjects for wisdom as a combination of theoretical and practical knowledge. In order to figure out Muhammad Iqbal’s understanding of wisdom (hikmah), first of all, his life will be investigated in detail because, in contrast to philosophy, knowledge of wisdom comes from both religious sources and daily human experiences. Thus, like Socrates, as a wise man, Iqbal’s main ideas should be grasped from his biographies and social activities rather than only from his books. Without this approach, Iqbal cannot serve as a model for contemporary Muslim educators.
